ISLAMABAD — A specialized hands-on training on Ischial Containment Socket (ICS) Design for transfemoral prostheses is currently underway at Rehab Initiative (RI),Islamabad, running from April 6 to 10, 2026. The program marks a key effort to elevate clinical standards in advanced prosthetic socket design across Pakistan.
Organized by RI in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the training brings together participants from CHAL Foundation, Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar, Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic & Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS), and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department.
The curriculum is designed to strengthen clinical competencies in ICS fabrication—a critical technique for improving socket fit, patient comfort, and functional mobility for individuals with transfemoral amputation. Emphasis is placed on practical application to ensure direct translation to patient care.
“RI remains committed to strengthening the capacity of professionals from ICRC partner centers and academic institutions,” a representative said, “while advancing the quality and scope of Prosthetics & Orthotics services across Pakistan.”
The initiative aligns with broader national and global health goals, including disability inclusion, universal health coverage, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Partner organizations have underscored the importance of such collaborative training in expanding access to high-quality physical rehabilitation services.
As the training continues through the week, RI reaffirms its role in building a skilled workforce capable of delivering assistive technology that restores mobility and dignity to those in need.
