IHC Orders PESCO to Pay for Artificial Hands for Girl Who Lost Both Hands to Electric Shock

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) to pay for the treatment, rehabilitation and artificial limbs of a nine-year-old girl who lost both her hands to an electric shock.

Justice Muhammad Azam Khan dismissed PESCO’s petition in the case and directed that the girl, Lababa, be given a full medical examination at a hospital in Rawalpindi. The assessment is meant to establish her medical needs and identify which artificial limbs and rehabilitation options would suit her.

Under the court’s decision, PESCO must provide Lababa with modern artificial limbs and cover every expense connected to her treatment and rehabilitation.

The court also ruled that if the facilities needed to fit the limbs are not available in Pakistan, PESCO will have to arrange the treatment abroad and pay for it, including all costs of treatment outside the country.

The ruling means Lababa’s family will not have to pay for the specialised care she needs.
