KP Health Minister Backs Expansion of Prosthetics Services at PIPOS

Peshawar — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Health Khaliqur Rehman has called for a significant strengthening of prosthetic and orthotic services across the province, describing accessible rehabilitation care as essential to the social integration and independent living of persons with disabilities.

Addressing a ceremony at the Peshawar Institute of Prosthetics and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS) in Hayatabad, where he served as chief guest, the minister praised the institute’s role in delivering specialised medical rehabilitation and vocational training to individuals living with physical impairments.

“PIPOS not only provides medical rehabilitation but also equips individuals with the skills to lead independent and productive lives,” Rehman said, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to developing the facility into a modern, sustainable centre capable of meeting future demand.

Government measures announced include infrastructure improvements, procurement of modern equipment (advanced exoprostheses and CAD/CAM systems), and investment in skilled clinical human resources

Rehman noted that demand for such services remains persistently high across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — a province significantly affected by decades of conflict and the resulting prevalence of physical disabilities. He outlined that the government has already initiated a series of measures to bolster the institute’s capacity, including infrastructure upgrades, procurement of modern equipment, and investment in the training and retention of skilled personnel.

The minister commended PIPOS staff for their dedication before being presented with a commemorative shield in recognition of his support for the institute’s mission.
