Qatar Charity Supports Prosthetic Rehabilitation for Gaza Children in Jordan

Rehabilitation project combines prosthetic limb fitting, physiotherapy and psychosocial support to help children affected by amputations regain mobility and independence

Qatar Charity is supporting a Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Limb Fitting project for children from Gaza who have undergone amputations, with the programme currently being implemented in Jordan in partnership with the Restoring Hope Society (RHS).

The initiative is designed to help children affected by conflict-related limb loss regain mobility and gradually return to their daily lives with greater independence, confidence and dignity.

Rather than focusing solely on the provision of a prosthetic limb, the project follows an integrated rehabilitation approach. Children receive a combination of medical care, physiotherapy, psychosocial support and prosthetic limb fitting, addressing both the physical and emotional consequences of limb loss.

The programme aims to restore functional mobility while helping children reintegrate into their families and communities. Rehabilitation support can play an important role in enabling children with limb loss to resume everyday activities and continue their education.

According to Qatar Charity, the project reflects its humanitarian response to the consequences of the crisis in Gaza, with particular attention to children experiencing severe physical and psychological effects following their injuries.

Engineer Darrar Maaytah, Director of Qatar Charity’s office in Jordan, said the initiative goes beyond addressing immediate medical needs and seeks to help affected children rebuild confidence and work towards a more stable future for themselves and their families.

Bilal Al-Abbasi, Director General of the Restoring Hope Society, said the project forms part of a wider response for injured people and amputees affected by the war. He highlighted the importance of implementing rehabilitation services in Jordan while maintaining continuity with the society’s work in Gaza.

The programme includes prosthetic limb provision and follow-up care, allowing rehabilitation to continue after beneficiaries return. This approach is intended to provide a more continuous pathway of care rather than treating prosthetic fitting as a one-time intervention.

For children who have experienced limb loss, successful rehabilitation extends beyond receiving a prosthesis. Prosthetic fitting must be supported by rehabilitation, physical training, follow-up and psychosocial care to help the child adapt to changes in mobility and participate more fully in everyday life.

The Restoring Hope Society described the initiative as a comprehensive humanitarian pathway aimed at rebuilding the lives of injured children. Its objectives extend from restoring mobility to strengthening confidence, improving a child’s sense of safety and supporting a return to education and daily routines.

The project is part of Qatar Charity’s broader humanitarian and development activities in Jordan. According to the organisation, its Jordan office has worked since 2021 with government and civil-society partners on programmes including social welfare, support for vulnerable families, emergency humanitarian response and economic empowerment.

The rehabilitation and prosthetic limb fitting programme highlights the importance of long-term prosthetic and rehabilitation services for children affected by conflict-related amputations, particularly when combined with physical and psychosocial support.

By bringing these services together, the initiative seeks not only to provide mobility solutions but also to help affected children regain independence, participate in daily life and move towards a more secure and dignified future.
