Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Differently abled (PSRD) Highlights Impact of Orthotics & Prosthetics Centre

Lahore, Pakistan

The Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Differently abled (PSRD) has reported significant achievements in 2024-2025 through its Orthotics and Prosthetics Centre, reaffirming its commitment to empowering persons with disabilities through comprehensive rehabilitation services.

During the reporting period, the Centre provided clinical and technical services to 5,882 patients and successfully delivered 6,844 orthotic and prosthetic appliances, marking a major contribution toward improving mobility and independence across communities.

Operating under PSRD’s vision of inclusive and accessible rehabilitation, the Centre offers a wide range of services including upper and lower limb prostheses, orthoses, spinal supports, orthopedic footwear, and silicon-based assistive devices. Efficient service delivery mechanisms have enabled many patients to receive appliances within the same visit.

Patient registration data reflects the Centre’s strong integration within the healthcare system:

  • 2,315 patients through OPD services
  • 3,196 patients referred by surgeons
  • 273 cases facilitated under the ALTSO program
  • 98 private patients

The majority of interventions focused on lower limb rehabilitation, with 3,795 lower limb orthoses provided, alongside upper limb orthoses, spinal orthoses, modular prostheses, and specialized assistive devices such as Sach feet and foot arches.

In line with PSRD’s mission to ensure equitable access, the Centre extended financial concessions to 3,091 patients, with total support amounting to PKR 38,083,500. This reflects PSRD’s continued dedication to serving underprivileged populations and reducing barriers to care.

The ALTSO Project further strengthened outreach efforts, serving 298 patients and delivering 482 assistive devices, contributing to expanded rehabilitation coverage.

The Centre’s impact is best illustrated through its patient success stories. Individuals who once faced severe mobility challenges have regained independence and dignity—ranging from a young amputee returning to the workforce with a prosthetic limb, to a bilateral upper limb amputee successfully rehabilitated with a myoelectric prosthesis.

PSRD leadership reiterated its commitment to advancing rehabilitation services in Pakistan, focusing on innovation, professional excellence, and patient-centered care to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to live a productive and independent life.

As a leading institution in rehabilitation, PSRD continues to set benchmarks in orthotics and prosthetics services, transforming lives and strengthening communities nationwide.
