Students from Gilgit and Khizer Explore Future Careers in Orthotics Prosthetics and Allied Health Sciences at PIRS, Islamabad

ISLAMABAD – In an initiative aimed at bridging the gap between aspiring students and emerging professional fields, a delegation of school and college students from the remote regions of Gilgit and Khizer recently visited the Pakistan Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences (PIRS) for a comprehensive career counseling and guidance session.

The visit, designed to illuminate future career pathways, focused on the growing opportunities and significant advancements within Allied Health Programs. Students were guided through the process of identifying fields that resonate with their personal interests and long-term aspirations, moving beyond conventional career choices.

A highlight of the tour was an interactive visit to the Orthotics and Prosthetics Department. For many of the students, this was their first exposure to the field, which specializes in the design and creation of medical supportive devices and artificial limbs. They were briefed on the critical scope, rising demand, and profound impact of this profession in restoring mobility and improving patients’ quality of life. Despite the field being a novel concept for them, the students demonstrated keen interest and engaged with the subject matter enthusiastically.

The entire visit was facilitated and coordinated by PPAF, whose dedicated team accompanied the students, ensuring a smooth and enriching experience.

The delegation was received and accompanied at PIRS by r Ms. Sidra Tariq, Assistant Professor of Orthotics and Prosthetics, who provided expert insights into the academic and practical aspects of the discipline.

This exposure trip is seen as a vital step in inspiring a new generation of healthcare professionals from across Pakistan, introducing them to specialized and high-demand fields that are essential to the nation’s healthcare landscape.
