Jordan’s King Abdullah Reviews Locally-Developed Mobile Clinics for Amputees

AMMAN – His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan was briefed on Wednesday on the progress of innovative, locally-designed mobile clinics that are expanding critical medical and rehabilitative services for amputees across the kingdom.

The briefing, held at Al Husseiniya Palace, focused on the work of the Restoring Hope Society’s Mobile Amputee Support Units. These specially equipped vehicles are engineered to reach patients in remote or underserved communities who lack access to specialised prosthetic and rehabilitative care.

According to a Royal Court statement, the King met with personnel involved in the project and was updated by the society’s Chairperson, Fawaz Shakaa, on ongoing efforts to enhance the units’ capabilities.

Shakaa detailed the mission of the mobile clinics, which is to deliver comprehensive care—from prosthetic limb fitting to ongoing rehabilitation—directly to patients’ doorsteps, all under the supervision of qualified medical staff.

He emphasised that the units are a testament to home-grown Jordanian innovation, blending advanced industrial design with digital health technologies.

The initiative positions Jordan as a regional leader in prosthetics and rehabilitation, offering a national model for developing sustainable, technology-driven solutions to humanitarian challenges.

The Restoring Hope initiative was launched last year under royal directives, initially to provide rapid support to amputees in Gaza. Its services have since evolved and expanded within Jordan.

The programme is implemented by the Jordanian Royal Medical Services in cooperation with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation.
