IPMR Peshawar’s P&O Students Gain Hands-On Clinical Exposure at Paraplegic Centre

As part of their second semester clinical learning, students of the Prosthetics & Orthotics (P&O) Batch 6 program at the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR), Peshawar, participated in a hands-on clinical session at the Paraplegic Centre, where classroom knowledge was translated into direct patient care experience.

The session was conducted under the supervision of Sir Atif Khan, giving students the opportunity to engage directly with patients and observe real clinical presentations in a healthcare setting. Students were guided through the orthopedic and workshop areas of the facility, where they observed the fabrication and fitting process of prosthetic limbs, gaining insight into how devices are measured, cast, and prepared for patients.

The visit offered practical exposure to patient assessment, clinical reasoning, functional evaluation, and rehabilitation planning — core competencies within the field of Prosthetics & Orthotics. Rather than remaining confined to theoretical study, students were able to witness firsthand how lecture-based knowledge is applied in the care of real patients with individual needs.

For P&O students, clinical learning marks the stage where theoretical concepts begin to take practical shape. Each patient presents distinct challenges that call for careful observation, sound clinical judgment, and a patient-centered approach. Experiences of this kind are instrumental in building the confidence, professionalism, and technical skills students will carry into their future practice.

With this latest clinical session, IPMR Peshawar’s P&O Batch 6 (2nd Semester) continues its progression from theory toward professional competence — moving through the stages of assessment, clinical practice, and hands-on experience as they work toward becoming skilled and compassionate Prosthetics & Orthotics professionals.
